The Reality of "Real Life." You know that moment when the ring comes out of the box for the first time? Sparkling, shiny, and mesmerizing. But the reality is that over time, even the most luxurious piece of jewelry loses a little of its charm. This isn't because the diamond has changed, but because of real life: hand cream, soaps, dust, and natural body oils accumulate under the setting and on the gold, blocking the light.
The Good News? You don't have to run to the jeweler for this. With a few simple steps at home (and 5 minutes of work), you can restore your engagement ring or gold jewelry to its original shine.
The Homemade Formula: 4 Simple Steps Before we begin: Dirt on jewelry is often a greasy layer that "traps" dust. Our goal is to gently dissolve this grease without harming the metal.
Step 1- Soak: Take a small bowl with warm water (not boiling!) and a few drops of plain dish soap (dishwashing liquid is an excellent degreaser). Soak the jewelry for 20–40 minutes.
Step 2- Gentle Brushing (The Critical Step): Use a very soft toothbrush (a children’s toothbrush is perfect). Gently brush the jewelry, focusing on the area under the diamond or gemstone this is where most dirt accumulates and blocks the sparkle.
Step 3- Rinse: Rinse the jewelry under lukewarm running water. Crucial Tip: Close the sink stopper first so you don't lose anything down the drain!
Step 4- Dry: Wipe gently with a soft cotton cloth or let it air dry.
Important Warning: When to SKIP the Brush This is where our expertise comes in. Not all jewelry is created equal.
White Gold: Most white gold jewelry is plated with Rhodium, which gives it its bright white finish. Scrubbing too aggressively with a hard brush can wear away this plating and expose the natural (yellowish) gold underneath. With white gold, a gentle touch is key.
Delicate Gemstones: Stones like Pearls, Emeralds, or Opals are much softer than diamonds. For these, skip the brush entirely and use only a soft, damp cloth.
Preventive Maintenance: The "Take It Off" Rules The best way to keep jewelry clean is to protect it from extreme situations. Here are our 3 rules:
The Gym & The Ocean: Acidic sweat, salt water, and pool chlorine can damage gold alloys over time. More importantly, lifting weights at the gym creates a real danger of deforming the ring’s shape due to the pressure of heavy metals.
Cosmetics: Lotions, perfumes, and hairspray create a cloudy film on the diamond. The Rule: Jewelry is the last thing you put on before leaving, and the first thing you take off when you get home.
Bedtime: During sleep, fingers can swell, and there is unconscious pressure on the ring that can snag or loosen the prongs holding the diamond. Let the jewelry (and yourself) rest in a designated box.
Our Service: Free Professional Inspection Home cleaning is great for routine maintenance, but it does not replace a professional eye. We recommend visiting our studio once a year for a periodic checkup.
What do we do that you can't do at home?
Deep Steam Cleaning: Removes stubborn dirt from hidden crevices.
Microscope Inspection: We ensure there are no loose prongs (the metal claws holding the stone) to prevent stone loss.
Polishing: Renewing the professional shine if necessary.
This service is provided to our customers at no cost. It is suitable for both natural and lab-grown diamonds, ensuring your ring remains as perfect as the day you said "I do."
